Waste is a definite problem in the United States today.  Everyday, U.S. citizens generate around 200 million tons of trash.  That comes out to a little over 4 pounds per person.  This is quite a bit of waste when you think about it!  Unfortunately, much of that waste is not recycled.  With just a little bit of effort though, most things we view as trash can be recycled.  Batteries, glass, magazines, newspapers, plastic, aluminum, steel, and the list goes on.

Industry is also doing its part to be environmentally friendly. The government through waste disposal legislation encourages much of this effort and waste removal costs continue to increase, as trash space becomes limited. Companies are reusing cardboard boxes; products are repaired rather than just being disposed into landfill space.

The nation is starting to realize the importance of recycling.  Landfills are filling up and Americans are realizing that their waste does not just disappear when it is placed out on the curb.  There is still a lot that can be done though.  Below are some helpful links to other web sites that give more information on recycling.
