National recycling efforts are becoming widespread as space for solid waste becomes limited.  Residents can visit the Local Recycling Center rather than contribute to landfill waste.  The Society for Environmental Engineering (SEEn) have realized the need for recycling on the Michigan Technological University Campus.  These environmentally conscious members have created a recycling committee and strive to reduce the amount of solid waste generated on Campus

To accomplish this, the committee has started recycling efforts within the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department located in Dillman Hall and the Dow Environmental Building.

Glass Products and Magazines are currently collected and transported to the local recycling center.  As this proves to be a successful effort, the types of things that will be collected will increase to include such things as newspapers, cardboard, plastics, etc.

By these recycling efforts, the committee hopes that other campus departments and organizations will follow this example to reduce total solid waste generation.   Information on how to start a Grass Roots Recycling Program is provided along with details on SEEn’s recycling committee efforts.
